    2019 has seen a busy few months for ADMA Energy partners, with a flurry of activity around the final months of the NeSSIE project, new opportunities to take forwards our demonstration cases in corrosion and sensing, instrumentation and remote monitoring technologies, as well as planning for new areas of demonstration across the Pilot’s industrial challenges. The “taming NeSSIE” conference in Glasgow in January 2019 marked a key step forward in the project’s ambitions to create new demonstration opportunities in the region.

    Over the last weeks, the 3D-Printing Pilot project has put a particular emphasis on three key action lines, which resulted in some promising progress. Within the currently identified strategic collaboration areas (“demo cases”) companies from the partner regions are actively working on the specificities of the demo cases in order to prepare their implementations. A dedicated event, which will take place in Bologna on 18 June, will allow discussing the industry-driven cases related to the ‘Multi-materials components by hybrid 3D Printing manufacturing’ demo case.

    The Bioeconomy Pilot is having a busy spring and will participate in several events organised by the bio-based sector, both as speakers and moderators of technical sessions. The first event took place on 3rd April in Ljubljana, with the title “Boosting Innovation for EU Industry, Industrial Infrastructures and Open Innovation Ecosystems”.  The Bioeconomy Pilot provided an update on the state of implementation of its strategy and shared information on the business model from the Lombardy region.

    In April 2018, the Emilia-Romagna region joined Skåne as co-leading region for the Nano Pilot. This new partnership has had a positive impact on the Pilot and progress has been made across all three demo cases.

    After the approval of the 2019 Action Plan during the Network Representatives’ Meeting, which took place in Brussels on February 20th, the Pilot activities started immediately to boost progress according to the plan. In particular, on 14th March the first ESM Steering Committee of 2019 was organised with the main goal of planning activities in detail and start the process for including a new region in the coordination.

    The Vanguard Initiative has recently welcomed Farha Brahmi as the new Vanguard Initiative Network Manager. She previously worked for nine years for Invest NI, Northern Ireland’s regional economic development agency. Prior to this, she worked for the ERRIN network. As a result, she has substantial experience and knowledge in different regional policy areas, with a focus on research and innovation.

    On 16 January 2019, the Permanent Representation of Sweden to the EU and the Vanguard Initiative organised an informal information and discussion session about the topic How to stimulate interregional innovation investments – what would the proposed Interreg “component 5” bring us? The session gathered 60 regional representatives and 20 representatives from Member States’ Permanent Representations to the EU. The event was a follow-up of the meeting hosted by the Dutch Permanent Representation on the 25th of May 2018.

    On 18 December 2018, the Vanguard ESM Pilot held a plenary meeting in Brussels, hosted by the Lombardy Region. The meeting delivered the state of the art of the ESM Pilot, showing the progress of demo-cases and highlighting the challenges for 2019.

    The Vanguard Efficient and Sustainable Manufacturing (ESM) Pilot Project is pleased to invite you to the 2018 Plenary Event that will be organised in Brussels.

    The meeting will be focused on the presentation of 2018 activities and results achieved by ESM demo-cases. Moreover, pilot coordinators will present  an overview of 2019 Action Plan.
