The Commission published the summary of the public consultation on I3 in March 2021. The VI contribution, which was submitted jointly with several other networks in December 2020, is well reflected in the report, and our input was taken really seriously into consideration.

On the basis of the more recent public information available on the design of the instrument, VI has decided to continue its lobbying efforts and to develop some additional input to the attention of the EC. A workshop was organised on the 30th of March by the PITG and VPM to reflect on our main points of concern. Around 30 participants took part in the workshop, notably representatives of the pilots. The main conclusions are being summarized in a short paper to be sent to the EC.

In addition, the EC has published in April a call for establishing the expert group which will assist her in the work programme preparation. An internal VI call was launched to select a candidate for representing VI in this expert group. This represents a new opportunity to pursue the dialogue with the EC about this new instrument inspired by the Vanguard Initiative.
