The first months of 2016 have seen an unprecedented intensity of activities within the Vanguard Initiative. The most visible demonstration of this successful commitment was the gathering of over 400 participants at the Vanguard Initiative matchmaking event on 25 February. It is often said that involving companies is the hardest challenge facing activities initiated at the political level. But during this matchmaking event, which was made possible by the European Commission’s DG Regio, over 40% of the participants were direct company representatives and many more indirectly represented companies via cluster organisations.
During the Vanguard Initiative annual political meeting, which took place the day before, European Commission Vice-President Jyrki Katainen encouraged the network to create regional partnerships of innovation actors and business for joint demonstration projects in new industrial growth areas. During this meeting, EU high representatives met with the political leaders from the Vanguard regions.
There was significant commitment at both the European and regional level from politicians, industrial experts and company representatives.
Presentation of the annual political meeting is available below, as well as the specific pilot project flyers and a short video from the matchmaking event.
