The Bioeconomy Pilot contributes to the interregional future of sustainable mobility

The energy enhancement of biomass is one of the most promising allies to ensure the transition to sustainable zero-emission growth.  Among the innovative partnership belonging in the Vanguard network, there is the SMBIo-LNG, an innovative industrial demo case, under the Vanguard Initiative’s Bioeconomy Pilot, on turning waste into green energy for sustainable mobility.

SMBio-LNG aims to provide a compelling case on the feasibility of sustainable trans-regional supply chains for the production, distribution and sale of liquefied biomethane for heavy-duty vehicles. Biomethane is produced exclusively from renewable sources generally considered waste, such as manure, agricultural residues and agro-industrial by-products.

Thanks to the Technical Assistance Facility  - TAF service, the SMBio-LNG partnership has successfully completed the first round of its business plan, and is now ready to access private lenders and ventures support. The Pilot’s support has not ended yet and it is working on designing a Replication Plan to demonstrate and enhance the sustainability and replicability of this business model in other Vanguard regions. SMBio-LNG’s dialogue with potential private investors and biogas producers from different European regions is facilitated, thanks to the S3P-Industry’s TAF input.
