Scotland House Brussels is delighted to invite you to the 2021 edition of our annual St Andrew’s Lecture, taking place online on Wednesday 1 December, from 17:30 – 18:30 CET / 16:30-17:30 BST.
This year, we are delighted to announce that the lecture – ''A Fairer, Greener Scotland – the role of innovation in building a planet fit for future generations'' - will be delivered by Chief Executive of Scottish Enterprise, Adrian Gillespie
.

Coming less than three weeks after COP26 in Glasgow, this year’s St Andrew's Lecture will be a timely opportunity to reflect on the outcomes of the conference, for Scotland and partners around the world, and allow us to start a discussion about what next steps are required to deliver our climate ambitions. Drawing on 30 years worth of Scottish Enterprise experience in economic development, EU, and international collaboration, the lecture will explore the role of innovation as a driver and enabler of positive responses to global challenges, such as the transition to net zero, for people, planet and prosperity. Adrian will share his vision and Scottish Enterprise ambition for how we move to deliver a fairer, greener more innovative economy. What is clear from COP26 is that compassion must be at the crux of any global solution, and St Andrew's Day is the perfect occasion for thought and reflection on the importance of international partnership, collaboration, and learning when it comes to addressing these shared challenges.

Adrian Gillespie recently took up the post of Chief Executive of Scottish Enterprise in September 2021, joining from the University of Strathclyde where he was Strathclyde’s first Chief Commerical Officer. Utilising his passion for innovation and development, Adrian oversaw the growth of Strathclyde’s industry-facing activities and the development of innovative, place-based economic development projects such as the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland and the Glasgow City Innovation District. Prior to this, Adrian honed his knowledge of the Scottish technology and energy sectors while working for sixteen years at Scottish Enterprise, holding various leadership positions in the technology and energy sectors before becoming Managing Director leading Scottish Enterprise’s support for high growth companies, innovation, entrepreneurship and infrastructure development.
